Let’s all face it. COVID-19 is here to stay for a little longer. With restrictions in place for most areas and some of us self-isolating, this pandemic is with no doubt causing a lot of anxiety and deep uncertainty. It continues to affect our daily lives so we should learn to adapt to all the changes to keep all of us safe and find ways to combat not only this invisible villain but also stress. Although we all feel restricted to do pretty much whatever we want, let’s use our time wisely and look after our mental wellbeing.
Try a new skill or re-visit an old one.
Have you ever wanted to learn how to play the guitar for example or to write? Or maybe learn how to paint? This is the best time to start and uncover these passions. Learning a new skill can increase self-satisfaction and will help us look back at 2020 and say that we have achieved something. It is also a good time to revisit a hobby like playing a musical instrument, baking and cooking for example. These simple joys will not only help us relive our past passions but also make us feel better and entertained. This blog was born during this pandemic to share ideas with the help of social media so, 2020 may not all be bad.
Revamp your House and declutter.
I know lots of us have been trying to redecorate, refurbish and declutter our most favourite hangout and holiday place during this lockdown-our homes. What a fantastic way to spend our time this year. We can use this time to make our homes cosier and to maximise space. It is a great feeling when your home turns into a little staycation spot for our families. There are lots of ideas on Pinterest and Instagram to inspire you.
Reconnect.
Social media and the internet have never been so important these days to help us stay connected to friends and loved ones. It has never been a good time to catch up with long lost friends and family members. Let’s use technology and social media to serve its main purpose.
Spend quality time with Family.
Nothing is more precious but a time well spent with loved ones especially during this challenging time. Staying indoors and playing board games for example could let out those giggles and laughs. Outdoor activities are also still possible during this time depending on where you are in the world of course. Please check with your local COVID-19 guidelines before travelling and please adhere to social distancing rules. Spending time outdoors is a fantastic time to enjoy nature’s luscious autumn colours.
Spend time with Nature whilst we still can.
Winter is almost here and restrictions in spending time outdoors may change so it must be a perfect time to put your coat on, go for a nice walk and enjoy the beauty of autumn. There are still national trust sites which are open to public and good for social distancing because it has great open spaces. You will need to pre-book tickets because they only allow limited number of people per day.
Take Care of your Mental Health.
All of the suggestions discussed previously are also ways to help look after our mental wellbeing during this pandemic. Many of us move on with our daily lives but have been suffering silently with deeply seated worries and concerns. I feel for all the people who are not able to see their families and loved ones because of lockdown rules and restricted international travel especially our frontliners who have been working throughout this pandemic. These are trying times but let’s look at it as a temporary situation and continue to hope that things will be better. We have to. One day we will all be together again and this pandemic is just a pause or a moment to take care of ourselves and all the loving people around us for now.
1. Connect with other People
2. Be Physically Active.
3. Learn new skills.
4. Give to others.
5. Pay Attention to the Present Moment (Mindfulness)
